Out in space, ship to ship combat can be incredibly frustrating. Certain necessary elements are present on all worlds, but others can be much harder to find, stunting progress. While a scan function can highlight which category of materials are in your vicinity (isotopes, silicates, oxides and more), there's no way of telling what they are from a distance.
Finding the precise resource you may need in the first place can be a chore though.
